Joshua Waller

Masters Student

Stressed, well-dressed, and Taylor Swift obsessed… Josh is in his Segura Lab era. Josh graduated from the University of South Carolina Honors College in 2022 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in Political Science (weird combo, but why not). During his gap year, Josh worked as a Research & Development Chemist at a pharmaceutical company in his hometown of Columbia, SC. There, he specialized in the HPLC quantification and identification of drug product APIs and impurities. After starting at Duke as a Biomedical Engineering M.S. student, Josh joined the Segura lab to pursue his interest in gene delivery. During his time with the lab, he hopes to optimize methods for the release of nucleic acids from granular hydrogel scaffolds to enhance long-term transfection efficiency for therapeutic applications. When Josh isn’t in lab, you can find him at home drinking Josh wine while watching reality tv with his cat, Albus, or at a local Mexican restaurant drinking margaritas with friends.
