Fernando Alamilla

Masters Student

Always building, always learning. Fernando earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey and spent a year as a research intern in Dr. Shrike Zhang’s Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he led projects in organ-on-a-chip and bioprinting, while also supporting lab management and operations. These experiences shaped his passion for developing low-cost, high-impact biotechnologies that expand the reach of tissue engineering.
Now starting his Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University, Fernando joins the Segura Lab to explore biomaterials for regenerative medicine and advanced 3D culture systems. He believes the best way to grow is to fail, while making sure to learn from it, and sees empathy as a guiding principle for both science and life. Outside the lab, Fernando enjoys losing himself in fantasy books, always on the lookout for new stories.
