April Chavez Espinoza

Research Associate

Ella es callaita, pero pa la ciencia, atrevida. April formed part of the second graduating class from Wake Forest University’s new Engineering Program, earning her degree in 2022 with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Spanish. While learning the fundamentals of engineering in combination with a liberal arts education, April was able to study abroad in Salamanca, Spain, do research, work at a start-up non-profit, mentor and play intramural soccer at Wake. She also gained various research experiences by testing pediatric heart valves with in vitro experimentation and by learning wet-lab best practices with human lung cell cultures. She is excited to now work directly with Dr. Holly Lewis to carry out our Culturing Tolerance project. Outside of lab, you would see April hiking (and often cuddling) with her Siberian Husky Alpha, watching psychological thrillers, and dancing with her family and friends.
