Anthony Ayala

Masters Student

Often doing everything, everywhere, all at once… Anthony graduated from Columbia University in 2025, earning a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Here, he investigated polymer-nanoparticle cross-linkage to develop a lymph node-mimetic hydrogel as an immunotherapeutic under the guidance of Professor Santiago Correa. This experience opened up the world of immunotherapies and inspired him to continue researching biomaterials for novel medical treatments. Because he loved doing organic chemistry soooooo much *definitely not sarcastic*, he decided to specialize in the materials themselves, leading him to pursue an MS in Materials Science & Engineering. In the Segura Lab, he is working on engineering MAP hydrogels to elicit immune cell signaling for regenerative therapeutics applications. Outside of the lab, Anthony enjoys trail running, playing video games, and mastering cooking (work in progress).
